3D Debate/Questions
According to this table, Gravity had the highest 3D takings and, at 79%,
the highest proportion of total gross from 3D screens. Why do you think this
was??
This is based heavily upon CGI and CGI is a hard thing to
perfect, and can easily go terrible wrong. Especially with a minimal amount of
actors/actresses. Another big impact on CGI film was Avatar, which did amazing
for its time when it was released and did extremely well at the box office to
say they was quite a bunch of actors/actresses and technical equipment. Gravity
did well based upon its CGI and its acting and not all 3D movies are as
successful and people would have went to see this movie based upon how they
would craft the movie based upon its narrative and the good press from the
media about the movie/critics.
Looking
back at the table, the next highest grossing 3D titles were walking with
Dinosaurs (69%) and One Direction: This is us (66%). Why do you think these
films were so successful in 3D and do they offer a template for the future??
These films were successful based upon the fact that 1D has a
big, wide fan base which is great for box office and the producers know that
die-hard fans would go and pay to see their beloved artists/boyband on the big
screen and connect with them. Also, Walking with Dinosaurs are centred on
sci-fi and fantasy based upon theories on whether they did or did not exist. As
well it would be great for people to immerse themselves into the story/movie
and it’s an event that they cannot actually experience. However, they weren’t
the best of films based upon it not being targeted towards a mass audience and
only being targeted towards someone’s particular personal interest. The 1D film
gave fans insight into the stars life and gives an insight behind scene of a
concert/experience at being at one of their shows.
The lowest
proportion of 3D gross was for three extremely popular titles: Monsters
University (22%), Frozen (23%) and Despicable Me 2 (25%).
Why do you think this is?
Why do you think this is?
I think the reason because of this is, that it’s cheaper for
little ones to see these films especially when they is more than one going to
see the film if it’s in 2D compared to 3D and Children’s eyes are still
developing and so forth so it’s not suitable for parents to take their children
to see it. Also, even though these
popular films did really well its didn’t do extremely well in 3D due to the
quality of how 3D has been over the past being not as always best or as
different to how 2D appears.
